Announcing: The Return

The father of a writer-director unexpectedly dies while he visits family in India. Out of guilt, in the immediate aftermath Hena begins making a film about her strained relationship with her father. Turning the camera on herself and her remaining family, she tracks her emotional journey as the first year after his passing unfolds. The film’s various documentary elements interlace with re-enactments of key memories, and all synthesize to uncover the truth about this personal yet universal father-daughter relationship. A reflection on memory and legacy, “The Return” asks: after someone dies, what remains behind?
